Why Go to Church? ~ ❤️

First of all, I cannot take credit for the story below and I cannot give credit either. Every occurrence of this story below has just said, Anonymous.

There have been some Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and or Wednesday nights that I simply didn’t want to put forth the effort to go to church. But, never once was I ever disappointed. Never once did I think, “Well that was a waste of time.” The story below says it way better than I ever could.

(Story Copied) A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.

He wrote: "I've gone for 30 years now, and in that time, I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time. The preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all".

This started a real controversy in the 'Letters to the Editor' column. Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" (End)

I’ve also heard the same analogy using a lump of coal. One chunk of coal will not burn hot enough to give off much heat for warmth or to cook with. If left unattended, it will eventually cool off and go out. But, if you put several lumps of coal together, you get enough for warmth and heat for cooking. When we all come together, we are better. We are better prepared to take on the new week. We are better prepared to meet each other’s needs. We become better at sharing our gifts and talents. We energize and motivate each other.

Why go to church you ask? Why do you get together with family? Because you love one another and you want to be fed. Just as food nourishes our body, family nourishes our heart, God’s word, taught from a pulpit or a Sunday School room, nourishes and enriches our soul. Does this mean you HAVE to be at church all the time? Of course not. We all have legitimate reasons to miss occasionally. But, if the last two years have shown us nothing else, it has shown us that we must stand firm, together! We must NOT live in fear. There is strength in numbers. With over 100 verses in the Bible that talk about being together, we must do just that, be together in worship and fellowship with like-minded believers. Our technology has afforded us the opportunity to share with those who can’t be present but it should never be an excuse for us to skip out on face-to-face worship. We are all members of One Body, the Body of Christ.

Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Hebrews 10:25 Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

1 Corinthians 14:26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.

Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

I pray I will see you at church! I couldn’t resist adding this song. Just know we will all be humming it together the rest of the day.

Replying to

Bill, I love that you are a part of our family and you know how how to make us laugh. Not at each other but with each other. It’s a joy to worship with you.

Thank you for sharing with us, it takes everyone of us to make up a part of every church, you could be a grain of sand in the mortar or a brick but, all are important. Remember you are part of the whole.Have a great day, Amen
