What Is Your Glue?

During Sunday School, we were discussing faith, hope, and love, with the focus on faith. The question was asked, “What is faith?” Several people responded with things like, “taking God at His word.” Someone else quoted Hebrews 11:10. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” The teacher wrote all 3 words on the board and asked the question, “Where do these three exist in time?” Past, present, or future?
Now I’m not going into all of the discussion but it was very eye-opening. Love was labeled as past and present, hope was labeled as future, and faith was listed as present and future. My friend Larry chimed in and said, “Faith is the glue.” It holds all three of the gifts together. Thanks Larry!
Now think about it. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.” We hope to watch our children and grandchildren grow up. We hope for a brighter future. We hope for the best. We love because God first loved us. We love our spouses and families. We love chocolate chip cookies. Okay, maybe not everyone loves them, but you get my drift. You don’t love something till you know it. Now faith truly is the glue. We didn’t see Moses part the red sea but we believe what God’s word tells us. That is faith. We didn’t see Jesus born in a manger, but we believe the story from multiple accounts in the Bible. That is faith. We didn’t see Jesus walk on water, but we are assured by His word that more than one disciple saw Him. Faith is taking God at His word. Faith is truly the glue that connects us with the past, the present and the future. Without faith there is no hope. And without hope, there is no redemption, no salvation, no Heaven, no purpose for love.
So, I ask you, what is your glue? What holds you together? Is it a job or money? Is it the love of self? Is it someone or some-thing that eats up your time? What is your glue? I pray that we each seek to find that faith, hope, and love, truly are ties that bind us all together. I pray that God's word and his Love given through the shedding of His Son's blood on the cross at Calvary will be your glue, be what holds you to God and holds you to a church family. I love my family and the family within my church, the family of God.
1 Corinthians 13:13 - But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

God’s Word holds me together and getting All the meaning out of my daily Bible reading. Sometimes it takes more than one reading to get all the meat, then you get the desert, Amen
