What Is Normal?

“One has to remember normal or every new outrage will be absorbed and excepted.”

I wrote this quote down a long time ago but I failed to acknowledge who wrote it. I actually think it was from a TV show but I can’t remember. Sorry for not giving credit where credit is due.

However, I wrote the quote down because it really hit home with what is happening in the world. What is normal? What is normal for a farm girl is definitely not the same normal for a city girl. Or is it? If we stop and think about it, it can give you a headache. Every media source is trying to change our mind of what normal is.

Webster Dictionary defines Normal as:

1... Relating to rudiments or elements; teaching rudiments or first principles; as normal schools in France.

2...conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern: characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine

3... according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, procedure, or principle

4...occurring naturally

5. generally free from physical or mental impairment or dysfunction: exhibiting or marked by healthy or sound functioning within a range considered safe, healthy, or optimal

not exhibiting defect or irregularity,

Now compare what you know to the Bible. We must not let the world define normal. We must not allow the bombardment of media redefine the Christian definition of normal. If we don’t stand for right, normal, we will fall for anything.

"Got Questions" website has this quote: “Common sense is sound judgment in practical matters." In Proverbs 8:5 some translations speak of the need to develop “common sense,” which other translations simply call “prudence” or “discretion.” Biblically, common sense can be thought of as a combination of wisdom and discretion (Proverbs 3:21; 8:12–14). Wisdom is knowing what to do; discretion is knowing when and where to do it “

We must not allow the world to define a Christian's normal. At least two Big companies have become their own worst enemy. My daddy always said don’t mix business and politics. It’s perfectly normal to share you views, especially when they have been tested against The Word. But at least two major companies tried that and lost big time. Don’t let the media try to "teach" you what normal is. Use your own eyes and ears and pray. Ask God to give you discernment and follow His lead. We have the power to change the course if we use our discernment given by God as our measurement and our pocket book to remind folks what normal is. Pray for normal again. Pray for common sense.
