Tougher Than Nails

Jesus’s love for us was so strong that he stayed on that cross. He didn’t come down. He didn’t wipe out everyone standing there… and he could have. Put your self in Jesus’ place: the lashes, the crown of thorns, the humiliation, the spear in his side, and the nails driven through his hands and feet that were more like spikes than nails. He had the power to end it all! He could have removed the pain. He could have removed the nails… BUT, he didn’t! If you truly think upon Jesus’s death, it makes you either shudder from the pure agony he endured, or weep from the sheer magnitude of what he did for us. Jesus was tougher than the crown of thorns. He was tougher than the lashes. He was tougher than the nails. He endured it ALL FOR US!

Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesians, from his prison, these words: Ephesians 3:14-21 - 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Paul didn’t write these words just for the Ephesians but for us as well. There’s a country song about being tougher than nails. It does have a strong message for all of us, especially me, who can jump on something or somebody in a heartbeat. I’m not tough at all.
