Psalm 103
1 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Nope, this one is not about “Toy Story” but I couldn’t resist using Buzz Lightyear’s line as the title. When I was too young to drive, I had to hoe row after row after row of tobacco. Now if you have never hoed tobacco let me just say its one of those jobs that you think is never going to end. Up one row and back down the next long, hot, sandy row. It was brutal. However, you would eventually get to the other side of the field. It might take a few days but you would get there. There was an end to what you felt like would never end.
But, when reading the first half of Psalm 103, David tells us that God’s love and forgiveness has no end! His love is as high as the heavens are above the earth, and for those who fear him, He has removed our transgressions as far as the east is from the west. That’s infinity! If we love God, repent of our sins, then His Love will never end and our sins are so far removed that we will never see them again. That should put a smile on your face, a love that never ends and sins removed as far as the east is to the west. I’ll take “to infinity and beyond” any day when love is abounding and sins are no more. Amen and Amen
