There Is No Fence!

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

You might want to read those two verses again.  Many people Just don’t understand them.  In the verse there is no fence mentioned but, in my experience, you can’t have a gate if it’s not attached to a fence.  Therefore, the purpose of the gate is to have a way to pass “through” the fence.  My dad used to say, “You can’t have it both ways.” Or maybe you’ve heard, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”  Truer words were never spoken.  However, in this day and age, the younger generations just don’t get it.  There are not many “fences/barriers" anymore. There is no loyalty.  There is very little, if any, integrity.  There is no understanding of the foundations of our country.  I’ve heard may times people say, “he’s walking the fence”.  I don’t know how many of you have ever actually tried to walk the fence, but it’s darn near impossible.  You will fall or jump to one side or the other, eventually.

When you read the word “gate” in the scripture above, it implies there is a fence.  However, in this instance, God’s word is trying to tell us that you need to “choose” the correct path and stay on it.  But, without a clear understanding of His word, His guidance, and His commands, you can easily veer off the path onto a broader path that may be going in the wrong direction. THERE IS NO FENCE to follow to get to heaven.  You can’t walk on the fence, this essentially makes you a non-believer.  The only fence you have as a guide is God’s Word. Know His Word.  Learn His Word.  Scripture tells us it will not be easy.  Nothing easy is ever really worth it.  Yes we have real fences in this world.  Some to keep us in and protected and others to keep us out and protected.  Stick to God’s Word and you will never have to “walk the fence” except to make sure the cows are still in the pasture.

Let Psalm 23 be your prayer today:  My words added in parentheses.

A PSALM OF DAVID.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD

forever.
