The Welcome Mat

“Finally, let’s draw near to the throne of favor with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace when we need help.” Hebrews 4:16 (CEB)
In our recent visit, my cousin, Joyce and I were talking about the goodness of God and she gave me this devotion in a statement she made. She said, “the welcome mat is always out at the throne of grace.” What a powerful truth that is! We are never, ever denied entry to the throne room of Christ. In fact, we are told in God’s word to cast every care upon Him, and there are no qualifiers listed. EVERY care, no matter the size or difficulty as we see it.
We are free to approach anywhere and anytime. Galatians 5:1 tells us that Christ has set us free, we are free to receive His promises and presence as well as being given the freedom to approach Him in that holy place, the throne room of heaven. As believers, it is our privilege to have access to our Heavenly Father at all times.
Charles Spurgeon explained it this way:
We have permission to approach His throne at all times-in midnight’s darkest hour, or in noontide’s most burning heat. Exercise thy right, O believer, and live up to thy privilege. Thou art free to all that is treasured up in Christ-wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. It matters not what thy need is, for there is fulness of supply in Christ, and it is there for thee. O what a “freedom” is thine! freedom from condemnation, freedom to the promises, freedom to the throne of grace, and at last freedom to enter heaven!
I am so thankful for the welcome mat, for there have been times that I am certain my knees created a rut in front of the throne of Christ! Never doubt your access to Him, remember as in the verse above that we are told to approach with confidence; being confident in that He is always available, the door is always open.
In closing meditate on this verse from Isaiah 54:10, “The mountains may shift, and the hills may be shaken, but my faithful love won’t shift from you, and my covenant of peace won’t be shaken, says the Lord.” (CEB)

I love that scripture from Isaiah that you referenced. A good one to commit to memory. Last year I read the book Evidence Not Seen about a missionary in Papua New Guinea. One of the most durable takeaways I received from that autobiography was how sustaining the scriptures that she had committed to memory were to her while imprisoned in POW camps during WWII.
Great thought and devotion!
Tell Joyce “That the welcome mat is always out at the throne of Grace” is the best line I’ve heard. Excellent devotion Lucy.
Well done writing this devotion. We all need reminding about that great door to our Savior.
It is also a witnessing tool, put it to work, Amen.
