The Smile of a Child

There is absolutely no better feeling than that of a smiling grandchild running to greet you. My grands don’t live very close so I can go weeks without seeing them in person. Grandchild number 6 is a little boy who is 21 moths old and has had absolutely nothing to do with me. Now PawPaw is another story. What am I chopped liver? It’s all okay. This week I pulled up in their driveway. Before I could get out of my truck, my youngest granddaughter came running out of the house and hot on her heels was grand number six. Flat out, wide open running, so fast I was afraid he was going to face plant before I could catch him. He actually launched himself at me. Grandma is no longer “chopped liver.” Y’all my heart was about to burst.
We are God’s children and grandchildren. Can you imagine the feeling he gets when we finally decide He’s not “chopped liver” and go running to Him? Think about that for just a second or two. Now, I know that not everyone, who might read this, is a grandparent. If you’re not one, it is a feeling unlike any other. You can love on them, spoil them and send them home to mama and daddy. It's all good.
A child’s smile is free from the worries and strife of the adult world. They are not worried about right and wrong so much. Their insight can be so free from outside influences. They view most things in a very literal and simplistic way. I believe that is why Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” Those words were actually recorded at least three times in the books of Matthew 19:13-14, Mark 10:13-14, and Luke 18:15-16. Go read them all! That’s how we should approach Jesus, humble, unencumbered by the outside world, ready to leap into His arms. May it be so.

One cannot help to smile looking at the beautiful faces of those precious children. Thank you.
