The Greatest Valentine Gift Ever!

When some people hear the word Valentine’s Day, they do one of two things; They either cringe and roll their eyes or, they have visions of flowers and chocolates and stuffed animals running through their head. Valentine’s is one of those holidays usually associated with love: love of parents for their children, love of friends for each other, love of one spouse for the other spouse, or love of grandparents for their grand-children. It is the holiday of Love. Our society has turned it into a materialistic, grandeur showing of affection. And there is never anything wrong with letting family and friends know that you love them. But, there is more to Valentine’s Day than sweet sentiments and chocolate.

The greatest Valentine gift that was ever given wasn’t a majestic diamond, or humongous box of chocolates, or dozens and dozens of flowers. It was the gift of salvation that was given through DEATH. What if you had to die to show someone you loved them? But, you know what? That is exactly what Jesus did. He died to show us his love for us. He died so that we could receive the greatest Valentine gift ever - the forgiveness of our sins. All we have to do is accept the gift. John 3:16 says, “For God so LOVED the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

John 15:13-17 “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.”

You are loved! Have you accepted the gift of eternal love through salvation? It’s waiting on you. Tell someone that you love them and that Jesus does too. Happy Valentine’s Day.
