The Front of the Fridge

Psalm 143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.
I am a visual person. Don’t tell me how to do something, show me. I want to watch and see how you do it then I want to try. And because I am visual, I want everything out where I can see it. I’m sure it drives my husband crazy. His side of the bathroom countertop is clean and neat and mine has almost all of my daily items in full view. The same goes for the rest of my house. If I can see it then I can attend to it and use it. The front of my fridge and freezer are the same. I keep my most important things stuck right on the front or side where I can see them.
When I look at my fridge and freezer, I see my grandkids, maybe some of their artwork, a bill that needs paying, an on-going grocery list, a calendar, some ABC magnets, photos, cards and memos. My fridge is probably the most important spot in my house. Why might you ask? Because the fridge is my constant reminder. We all go to the fridge multiple times a day. It is my bulletin board.
My youngest son was visiting one weekend and he saw the front of the freezer and said, “Mom, why do you still have Christmas cards up?” It was the middle of the summer. I looked at him and said, “So I will remember to pray for them.” “I can’t argue with that”, he said. What I have up are the photo Christmas cards that friends and family sent. I can’t stand to throw away photos of people I know and love. So instead of tossing or putting in a drawer never to be seen again, I put them on the fridge and or freezer door. When I go to open the fridge or freezer, I see a smiling face and say a simple prayer. It’s not much but it's what I do.
Do you have a spot for reminders? It doesn’t have to be so out in the open as mine. It can be a journal, an app, a daily calendar…anything that helps you to focus on the task at hand when praying. So, if you see me standing in front of the fridge or freezer with the door handle in my hand and head bowed, I might be trying to remember why I’m there but I might be praying too.

What a great idea! Thank you for sharing this.
