The Devil Is A Lie!

“And when the tempter came to him, he said…”
“The devil is a lie!!!” I have heard my daughter say this many times when she felt that someone was not telling the truth. And it’s true. Satan is not only a lier but Jesus said he is “The Father of lies.” (John 8:44) He is a lier from the beginning and continues in his lies and deceit til this very moment. The truth is not in him and though he may be able to quote the Bible, he questions it and twists it to fit his agenda of deceit and destruction.
He brought it into Question in the Garden of Eden as he approached Eve and he brings it into question in the wilderness to Jesus. Not only does he question it, he also Misinterprets it.
First, by his Questioning the word, he created doubt in Eves mind. He said “Yea hath God said?” (Genesis 3:1) In this question he challenged the credibility of God’s word. In his accusation that God’s word was a lie he accused God to be a lier when he told Eve that God is really trying to hold you back and that there was no truth in his statement concerning the outcome of eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She found out the hard way that the Devil was a lie and that the truth is not in him. With Jesus, he questions whether he is who he says that he is, basically trying to create doubt in the mind of the son of God. The Devil said “Turn these stone into bread.” The difference is that Jesus never questioned, never doubted, and felt that he had nothing to prove to the Devil, who in reality knew who Jesus was already.
Next, Satan tries to Misinterpret the word. Don’t be fooled, Satan knows the Bible and he knows how to twist it to fit his deceptive tactics. He told Eve that she “Would not surely die.” (Genesis 3:4) He doesn’t deny that God said it, but he denied the truth of it. He twisted it just enough to cause Eve to misinterpret the command of God and again she found out the hard way that the devil is a lie and God means what he says. Jesus on the hand, after being tempted to jump from the Temple and having the angels to catch him, again had nothing to prove because he knew that the scripture was given to protect God’s plan of salvation and not put his power on display.
The point is that we do not have to defend God’s word against the deceptive lies or questions of the Devil. The Bible stands on its own merit and is “Forever settled in heaven!” (Psalms 119:89) We do not have to go about defended it as if it were on trial because we know that “Every word of God is pure and it is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5)
So I challenge you today to read the Bible. The reason why so many Christians are deceived is that they simply have never read it on a consistent basis. So many fall into the bondage of sin and liberal interpretations because they have never “Studied to show themselves approved unto God, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15) But, if we seek to be good students of the Word then “ You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free!” (John 8:32)
