Taking the Pen Away

1 John 2:16
“For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes
and pride of life is not from the father, but is from the world.”
The words just would not come to me,
As I began to write today.
Could you please tell me dear God above,
Why you took the pen away?
I am always there to guide your hand,
And to watch the joy it brings.
But Satan has you distracted now,
And focused on lesser things.
Like cleaning, cooking, and shopping for things,
Just to name a few?
Is that how Satan distracts me, Lord,
And keeps me away from you?
Yes, indeed he’s a crafty deceiver,
So, it doesn’t take him long;
To steal the time set aside for me,
And to remove you from where you belong.
At times I get so discouraged,
And I know it’s the devil’s ploy;
To fill my day with worldly things,
And to take away my joy.
From the Master’s hand to mine,
Flow the words I have lost today.
I see that taking the pen from me,
Was really the only way.
I had to feel the emptiness,
And realize the miles I’d drifted.
It only took a moment,
To lose what I was gifted.
Forgive me Lord, I humbly pray,
For the worldly things I do.
With pen in hand, may I hear your voice,
As I find my way back to you.

I just reread this and there is so much truth here. I’m saving this one to come back to as a reminder when I lose my focus.
Amen Lord let us stay focused!!
Wow… this absolutely put into words what I feel more often than not. This is one I want to keep and refer to often.
There is a lot in that poem to think about. Thanks Kathy!
