Splinter of Sin

Recently, our Sunday school teacher made a statement that caught my attention and stuck with me. The discussion was on the person of Jesus; both His humanity and the divine nature He possessed. Jesus was sin free and being that we were created in God’s image we too would have been sin free. This makes sin a foreign object within us. With Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the garden, sin came in lodging itself deep within our beings – left there unconfessed it will fester like a splinter in the finger that isn’t removed. “So, in the same way that sin entered the world through one person, and death came through sin, so death spread to all human beings with the result that all sinned.” Romans 5:12 (CEB) This was something I had not thought about; the fact that sin was not in God’s original plan for man; however God knew the turn Adam and Eve would take and from that moment on, sin would have to be dealt with. Once the Lord put this comparison in my mind, I knew it would be my next devotion!
Sin is a foreign object and left alone, its infection grows and grows within us much like that splinter we’ve probably all had at one time or another. Consider this analogy, “Imagine standing by a south window on a cold winter day. The air is frigid, but the sun is shining through the window. It begins to warm you, and you bask in its glow. Then you pull the drape closed. Instantly, the warmth stops. Is it because the sun has stopped shining? No, it is because something has come between you and the sun. The moment you open the drape, the sun can warm you again. But it is up to you. The barrier is inside the house, not outside.” www.gotquestions.org
Remember back in the first paragraph, sin had to be dealt with after that fateful day in the garden. Many sacrifices later, God sent His son, Jesus to take care of all of our sin. That great and terrible day that Jesus died did it all! Sin had been handled, death had been cancelled! There is though, something required of us – confessing our sin(s). We have received a merciful promise from our Heavenly Father that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we’ve done wrong.” 1 John 1:9 (CEB)
God so loved us that He has provided us with a solution to the sin problem! I love this verse from Ephesians 1. Verse seven (7) says, “We have been ransomed through his Son’s blood, and we have forgiveness for our failures based on his overflowing grace (8) which he poured over us with wisdom and understanding.” (CEB) Hallelujah!
If there is something festering in your heart that you need forgiveness for don’t hesitate! Kneel before Jesus, confess and repent and you will receive that overflowing grace poured upon you.
Fall on your knees – confess! For that is what is best.
As far as east is from the west,
Your sins He will fling
And pardon it shall bring.
Don’t delay, Confess today!

Great devotion Lucy! Love the application!
Love this one Lucy. A sin is a sin regardless of how big or how small, like a splinter, it can cause great pain and even destruction if ignored. Excellent analogy.
This is so true. We do not know when that last breath comes. That is why now is the time to make your decision. We control our destination, not God. IF you don’t receive Christ, it is going to be Hell. This is the choice of your life, don’t mess it up! AMEN!
Very good devotion, also don’t forget about Romans 8:26 for some more help, Amen, have a great day pleasing our Lord.
