Spiritual Prayer

Jude 20,21

The only way to combat all that is going on in times like these is prayer. But not just prayer…spiritual prayer!

Jude’s letter talked about perilous times and evil running rampant. Not just evil things, but also evil people. He wanted to write about the common salvation but the Holy Spirit guides him into a different direction, encouraging the Saints to“earnestly contend for the faith.” (Verse 3) After giving a list of the prevailing conditions of his day, he then encourages them “to build up their most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” (Verse 20)

I think that the only way that we are going to be able to “keep ourselves in the love of God” (Verse21) is to pray ferventlyand spiritually in these dark times. This takes focus! We have to lay down the news media, social media, and other media outlets and hear the good news of the Gospel which comes from prayerful reading of God’s word. As long as we keep taking in the events of the world and not balance it with hearing from heaven, we are going to be fearful, doubtful, neglectful, and ineffectual in our everyday life.

James said the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16) Fervent prayer gives us boldness, power, focus, and faith to believe all things and be all things for Christ in times of testing. But, not only should we pray in the Spirit, we also will be able to speak in the power of the Holy Spirit knowing that he will give us the words to say as we defend and share our faith before others.

I want to encourage you that in a time when foundations are being destroyed to build up your faith through spiritual prayer. In spiritual prayer, it is the Spirit in you, praying for you, and through you! It is through this type of praying that we know “all things will work together for good to them that love God and are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

For further encouragement read Romans 8:26-28

I love both those verses!! I told Lanta last night that just to pray fervently everywhere she is! She is starting at a new school this year and is scared I told her to just pray God would work it out! She is going to UCA in Asheboro pray for her today and in the days to come pray specifically for her friends that will help her focus on God and that will be good for her!!!
