Shadows by Kathy M. Crouch

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

Psalm 36:7

Children and their shadows,

A playful mystery;

For once it is discovered,

Comes the shout, what could this be?

The child tries hard to lose it,

By running to and fro,

But the shadow stays determined

To stay and not let go.

This simple act of childhood,

Helps us all to understand,

The shadow of the Almighty

Gives us rest beneath his hand.

It will never leave or forsake us,

For it covers us with love.

The shadow I am speaking of

Is cast from up above.

And once we seek our refuge

Beneath the shadow of his wings,

Like a child, we soon discover

Oh, what joy and peace it brings.

So, like this childhood mystery

Where the shadow won’t let go,

May we learn to cling to Jesus

As we’re running to and fro.
