Seasons of Life

Lamentations 3:22,23

Seasons of Life

Seasons of life how swiftly they go by,

How momentary they seem to be.

They come and go in calm and strife,

Leaving their timeless marks on me.

Spring, like a child begins with flourishing hope,

With showers on blade and leaf.

Young children dance and along they trope,

Full of laughter, absent from grief.

Then summer, like youth comes with its humid breath,

With sweat upon brow, we endure thee.

Then come storms with winds of death,

Nature revealing its volatility.

Then in a sudden the summer winds do break,

Autumns frost is refreshing to see.

But too, that chill makes my bones to ache,

As green leaves bring forth colors of beauty.

Ah! The Winter of death has come, and the light grows dim,

The days, they become short in length.

Bitter memories of summer in my head do swim,

As I fade away from youthful strength.

And now all is barren, and life seems drear.

Much regret and remorse conjoin,

But thy mercies like the sun begin to appear,

Faithfully they come, like new every morn.

Life, like nature, has its seasons,

We have our rejoicing and shame.

But there is one thing that is forever unchanging,

Thy Spirit, O God, abides the same.
