Search Me

Psalms 139

I sit here under His watchful care

Knowing that He knows every move I make.

I cannot breathe His refreshing air,

Without Him knowing every breath I take.

I cannot get up without my disturbing Him,

I cannot lie down and He not tuck me in.

I cannot go to any place on a whim,

Without Him meeting me therein.

He knows my thoughts and that humbles me,

Every word I utter before I even speak.

I cannot turn to run or flee,

Everywhere I look, He is there before me.

Should this terror me, should I be in fear?

After all He is my maker and my Judge.

Should I tremble when I know He is so near,

Will He, when I offend, hold a grudge?

No, I don’t think that He seeks to harm,

For you see He knew me from the start.

When in mothers mothers womb He formed my arm,

My lips, my lungs, and even my heart.

I have been formed, wonderful in fear,

By His tender hands was I made.

When I came forth and did appear,

He my paths had already laid.

I know that He is with me every step that I take,

He is always by my side.

I know that even when I make a mistake,

He reminds me that it was His son who died.

For my sins did Christ atone,

Knowing all the while what I would turn out to be.

On the cross He died all alone,

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me!

In most my holiest moments I tend to have the worst thoughts,

Like David when praying “thou hast search me.”

Strife and hatred mixed with love and distraught,

Oh what a wretched man I can be.

In life we tend to go from human to divine,

From the Spirit to the flesh.

But regardless of where I am, He tells me “you are mine,”

Reminding me that In Him I have rest.

Search me oh God, and know my heart,

Was David’s prayer and plea,

Know my thoughts from the very start,

And see if there is any wicked way in me!
