Quiet Amidst the Chaos

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
During this Christmas Season, especially having to deal with all the pandemic stuff, I have felt like so much of our world is in utter chaos. Too much is out of control. Inflation is eating away at our meager budgets; store shelves are sorely lacking in comparison to what we have been used to seeing in recent years; our government seems oblivious to the chaos that they are feeding; what I always thought of as common-sense thinking, is no longer prevalent. But, there is one constant, one assuredness, one promise that never changes and will bring a quietness to my small world…God’s Word and His promises.
Many times, and in different ways, His Word promises that he will be with us, Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” If that doesn’t calm the chaos, I don’t know what will.
So, every day, find the quiet. Find the solitude, find the peace that only comes from God above. Make an extra effort to carve out five or twenty-five or fifty-five minutes of quiet without the chaos. Turn off everything, open a door, or just turn off the lights and sit in the quiet. Look at the beauty around you, count your blessing, find something that makes you smile. Then read God’s words, even if only a few verses or a chapter. You will find that the chaos is less chaotic and much more manageable.
I know it’s a little late, but you can catch up easily. Read 1-2 chapters from the book of Luke each day till the chapter matches the date. There are 24 chapters, so by Christmas Eve you will have read one account of Jesus’ life. Talk about chaotic. I can’t even to begin to imagine what life was like back then. Even Jesus had chaos. People wanting him dead. People trying to “catch” him doing wrong. People begging for his healing touch. Even Jesus sought the peace and quiet so He could talk to His Father.
Lord, I ask that you help each of us make sense of the chaos and find our own moments of quiet to spend with you. Even so, come Lord Jesus, come.
Amen

I like the idea of reading through Luke during the month of December and I appreciate your thoughtful devotion, Sara. I’ve been meditating on Psalm 34 this week. Listen to some of these verses: 3,4 “Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from ALL my fears. 6 “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of ALL his troubles.” 17-19. “The righteous cried and the Lord heard, and delivered them out of ALL their troubles. The Lord is nigh to them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit. Ma…
Thank you, my thoughts this morning are like yours. Watching the rain falling on the few leaves left and the squirrels running to my pecan trees, time to contemplate with what my Lord wants us to see. Walk in his light today & share him. Amen
I was thinking about my blessings and l looked over to see Janice sitting there with her phone, and the thought hit me that, that was a blessing to. She could be out shopping! AMEN !
Amen!
Great devotion and so true. I have read Luke for about the last five years starting on December 1st and learn something new every time. ❤️
