Praying for Biscuits

There is a story that has been all over social media about a farmer who was asked to pray over a church breakfast. The farmer proceeds to tell God that he hates buttermilk and he doesn’t like lard, and that he didn’t much care for raw flour. Everyone is now sneaking peeks at where this prayer is going. He then adds, “Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I sure do love some warm fresh biscuits. So, when things come up that we don’t like, when life gets hard, when we don’t understand what you are saying to us, help us to just relax and wait until you are done mixing. It will probably be even better than biscuits.”
There is so much wisdom here. How often have we grumbled at what was in front of us? Or how often have you prayed for something specific only to seeming have that prayer ignored? How many times have you sulked or sat pitying yourself because things just don’t seem to be going your way? EVERYONE of us has done these many times over. The problem is we just have no patience and we can’t see into the future. But when we look back we can see how God put all of the pieces into place. I’ve always liked the song “Thank God for Unanswered Prayers.” God was making biscuits and we didn’t even know it!
There are many verses about waiting and listening for God but we have a hard time. Just remember there could be much better things just around the corner.
Jeremiah 29:11-12
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”
Proverbs 16:9
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I really like your devotion. God just reminded me to conclude every prayer request with his Will, as I just finished praying for my great gran little Jude. I love biscuits, Amen
