Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord

Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, … please read the rest of the chapter.

The last few weeks have just been horrific and disheartening in so many ways. School shootings of young children, the death of close family members, gang shootings in our county streets, the crumbling of the foundation of our country, soaring gas prices that threaten the lively hood of so many; we have been bombarded with sadness, grief, disappointment, anguish, and maybe even anger. Feelings all pouring in at once it seems.

Sometimes, I have become so overwhelmed with these feelings that it is difficult to stay focused on anything. Normally when I write, the Lord just pours out on me the story he wants me to tell. This week has been difficult to hear Him and find the right words. However, this tune has kept popping into my head the last few days. Tonight, during our Wednesday night prayer service, it popped into my head again. “Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord” is the song and it’s Randy Travis’ voice that I hear. J Okay Lord. I hear you! When words fail just turn on the tunes.

Please enjoy this song and meditate on the words. The message gets right to the “heart” of our problems. May we constantly be looking for the Lord. May we see him in the small, seemingly insignificant things we take for granted. May we see him in the encouragement of a friend. Look for him in the actions of those around you; like the hug of a child, the firm handshake of a greeting, the smile of a stranger. When we open the eyes of our heart may we only see the world with a heart full of gratitude and love. Try and replace the feelings that drag us down with the things of above.
