On Business For Our King

Ants, one of God’s most industrious creations. They are fascinating insects; it seems they have attracted the attention of both my grandchildren. Amelia and Bryson however hold different opinions about the ants. When we visited Amelia and her parents most recently, I made the comment to her not to step on an ant hill. Well, she took this literally and the remainder of our visit any time we were outside she would not walk on the dirt, rather she held up her little hands to be carried and any attempt to put her down resulted in her clinging on like a little spider monkey! Bryson on the other hand has really taken an interest in ants. He will leave whatever he is doing to watch them. He wants to touch them, and yes, sometimes step on them. Between the two of them, I’ve seen plenty of ants rushing about on business for their queen.

These busy ants made me think about being busy and working for Jesus! The ants are constantly on the move from bringing in food to caring for the eggs laid by the queen. Ants are social insects and a community can have thousands living in it. All this activity seems like chaos!

We have a King; do we work as hard for Him? Colossians 3:23-24 says this, “Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ.” (CEB)

What work are we to do? Remember that it is by grace though faith and not of works that we have salvation (Ephesians 2:8). Works that are fruit borne out of the reception of this grace may consist of: attending worship services, praying regularly, studying Scripture, giving generously and cheerfully, going on mission trips, caring for the poor, loving our neighbors and most importantly, telling others about this grace we ourselves have been given.

God is not asking that we become so busy that we get focused on how much we can do in the amount of time we have, rather we are to make Him first and honor Him in all that we do.

Will you join me in this simple prayer?

Use my hands Lord, help me to serve

By my actions may I point to Thee.

Your gift was the grace I did not deserve,

My prayer, that these faith works will be a key

By which others will come into Your kingdom for all eternity.

Amen

Great devotion, Ants & bees do their thing without our help. They follow the program that the master gave them. We need to follow their example of staying busy with our Master’s work, Amen
