Mending

Mending

Psalms 32 and 51

I am broken

I have fallen to pieces

I am beyond mending

I am hurt

I have become wounded

I am terribly bruised

You see I am David

A man after God’s own heart

So I thought

There is no doubt that I love God

But yet how weak my love

How weak my flesh

It started with a look

Then a touch

Then the deed was done

It started with a thought

Then a plan

Another deed is done

Now I am coming undone

Where is my song

My harp fails me

I am lonely

I cannot sleep

My mind filled with anxious thoughts

This will go away

It will soon pass

But yet it lingers

The prophet is here

He comes unannounced

Does he know

Oh, it’s not about me

A cruel deed has been done

An injustice I must correct

A Poor man with only one lamb

Injustice can be cruel

Him I will rightly defend

Repay, repay, repay

Restore what was lost

Condemn the vile offender

You are the man the prophet says

This crime is yours

Now how do you judge

I am that man

One of God’s lambs I did take

Have mercy on me

I want mercy

Earlier I had none to give

But now I am that vile offender

Wash me clean

Renew my heart

Give me back my joy

You see I am broken

My life Lord please start to mend

That I may rejoice and teach others not to sin

Restore me back to the place where I was before

My life will you once again use

I ask this counting on one great truth

That a broken and contrite heart, oh Lord, you will not refuse!
