Let It Go!

Hebrews 12:1,2; Matthew 5:29,30

Yesterday I shared how Jesus took our sins upon himself and by that, our sin is taken away. It is absolutely necessary that we let go of our sins because if not then we will carry our sins with us to the grave and will be lost eternally...because the wages of sin is death. Eternal death!

Mankind tries to hold onto his or her sin simply because he or she loves it. The tendency is to cover it up or justify it in some way making matters worse instead of better. Sin is truly offensive unto God and He has no choice but to judge it. Due to his mercy, grace, and love towards sinners He took His wrath out on animal's sacrifices in the Old Testament and then upon the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world in the New Testament, Jesus Christ.

Like Adam and Eve we are afraid to address our sin due to shame or some sort of punishment. We try to provide our own coverings through deception or good works. Many times man will deal with the fruit of sin instead of the root of sin never coming to the place in their lives were they recognize their need for a savior. C S Lewis describes sin like a toothache. We can take all the pain medicine we want to numb the pain but the real problem is a bad tooth. It must be taken out. Sin is like a bad tooth and it must be taken out, root and all. Only Jesus Christ can take away sin!

Just said that if our eye offends us pluck it out. If our hand or foot causes us to sin then they must be cut off. We have to separate ourselves from our sins and only the blood of Jesus Christ can bring that divide. We will either separate ourselves from our sin or our continual sin will separate us from God. (Isaiah 59:2) So we need to just let it go. Let us confess our sins and sinfulness. Let us lay aside the weight and the sin that so easily beset us! Let us make a clean break by plucking out the rotten tooth or eye, or cutting off the defiling hand or foot and enter into a life that is halt or maimed so that Christ may heal us and make us a perfect body in Him!
