Jesus Loves Even Me!

1 John 4:10

The Bible teaches us that we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Jesus said this in response to the question that was asked by one of the lawyers concerning the keeping of the Law. He pretty much summed up man’s responsibility towards God that is described in the first four commandments. He would then sum up the last six commandments which describes our responsibility towards our fellow man by saying we shall love our neighbor as ourselves. These we must do and it’s is love for God that is the foundation of our relationship because “Faith works by love.” Galatians 5:6

But the only way we can do this is by understanding that “It’s not the we loved God, but that He loved us first.” Our main focus should be God’s love for us. He loved us:

When we were without strength (Romans 5:6)

While we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8)

When we were his enemies (Romans 5:10)

What an amazing love! What a parental love! What an unconditional love!

The temptation for us when we focus on our love for God is the be lifted up in pride, self righteousness, and unthankful. But when we focus on God’s love for us it will humble us, make us dependent on his righteousness that he gives freely, and lead us into a life of thanksgiving.

I sometimes don’t know why he loves me but just as the old hymn song says,

“I am so glad that Jesus love me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me; I am so glad that Jesus love me, Jesus loves even me!”

And guess what? He even loves you too!

Second verse of the hymn ‘My Jesus I love Thee’:

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me

And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree.

I love Thee for warning the thorns on Thy brow,

If ever I loved Thee, Lord Jesus ‘tis now.
