It’s A Game of Chess With “The Master”

Lately, me and my husband have become a bit angry at that black box hanging on our wall. Yes, the television. I’m sorry to say that we used to use it to decompress from the events of the day: a little news, an episode of a favorite show and occasionally a movie. Nowadays, it’s like playing Russian Roulette. The news, no matter your flavor of the week, is nothing more than talking points that are continually regurgitated until something new hits the news cycle. Don’t get me started on the TV series making the rounds. Every. Single. Show. Has to have some aspect of the ABC…XYZ, blah, blah, blah community in it. Every commercial seems to hit on every "politically correct" population group and still throw in a hint, if not blatant gesture, of the homosexual lifestyle. I'm tired of the "TV" trying to be politically correct all the time, which is impossible.

Yes, there are some news agencies that address the abnormality of certain lifestyles but it is still shoved in our faces at every opportune moment. I know I can just turn off the TV, which is what we usually do or we record our favorite shows and just fast forward through the commercials and junk. But God!

As I think upon all of this, I am slammed, reminded that I am just as sinful as the ones being portrayed on the TV screen. Lying, cheating, stealing, greed, murder, taking God’s name in vain, vanity, slothfulness, excessive indulgences, hatred, lust, are ALL SINS and the list goes on and on. I fail daily. Let me repeat that. I fail daily. Sins are not divided into little sins or big sins, sins that are okay if no one sees them. There is no such thing as a permissible or justifiable sin. Sin is sin. I try with all of my being to not sin. Then I came across this quote from one of Dr. David Jeremiah’s daily devotions.

“Sometimes we can’t imagine why God has placed someone in a position of power, but He uses unlikely people to accomplish His will. Just look at the biblical characters of Nebuchadnezzar, Ahasuerus, and Herod. They were chess pieces in the hands of the Master of history. Don’t panic with the times. Rather, stand amazed at God’s providential omnipotence.” - Dr. David Jeremiah

When I see all of what appears to be incompetence, lack of common sense, outright abuse of the laws, and all of the other shenanigans that seem to be taking place, I just try to remember that the Master is in control. I’m not a chess player but it will be a sweet day when Jesus looks down and says, “CHECKMATE”. To quote Dr. Jeremiah again, “Don’t panic… stand amazed at God’s providential omnipotence.”

Meditate on these verses:

Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Thank you Lord for your promises.

Thank you for writing this devotion, I totally agree with your assessment. TV is an advertisement for our world around us. Do not cave in on this, GOD IS IN CONTROL, WATCH AND SEE HIS WORK.

CHURCH MAKE SURE PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF HIS SITUATION, AMEN.
