“As long as the earth exists, seedtime and harvest, cold and hot, summer and autumn, day and night will not cease.” Gen. 8:22 (CEB)
I don’t know about you, but I am tired of hearing about global warming. Especially during election season when it is a most popular topic. The term “global warming” has morphed into “climate change.” Both terms imply that changes have occurred and will continue to occur on and within the earth. Scientists, geologists and environmentalists all agree that the earth has gone through significant temperature/climate changes in the past. These climate changes were obviously not caused by human activity; but many scientists are convinced that human activity is the primary cause of climate change today.
We are to be good stewards of what God has provided as our earthly home. Is trying to reduce our carbon footprint a good thing? Are renewable energy sources worth pursuing? Of course. Are any of these things to be the primary focus of followers of Christ? Absolutely not! As Christians, our focus should be proclaiming the truth of the gospel, the message that has the power to save souls. Saving the planet is not within our power. Climate change may or may not be real and may or may not be human caused. What we can know for certain is that God is good and sovereign, and that Earth will be our habitat for as long as He deems it will be.
Do not let the thought or discussion of “climate change” put fear into your heart. We have God’s Word to reassure us. (1) God is in control! He is sovereign over every aspect of the earth and its atmosphere. (2) God tells us 365 times in the scriptures not to be afraid. He’s commanded it! (3) He has promised all seasons will continue. Re-read the verse above. (4) Our focus should always be on people and spreading the Gospel!
There are groups of people and activists that would have us live in fear with all their doomsday climate rhetoric but remember this from Psalm 46:1-3:
God is our refuge and strength,
A help always near in times of great trouble.
That’s why we won’t be afraid when the world falls apart, when the mountains crumble into the center of the sea, when its waters roar and rage, when the mountains shake because of its surging waves. Selah.
Let this be your assurance today and in the days to come.

We have always had climate change. It’s called the 4 seasons! Excellently written.
You did a great job of producing this devotion. I agree that this world is changing but God’s in control. Stay the course and do his work of witnessing to others. Living your life where others can see you is a witness for our Lord and tell them with your mouth, Amen
