Is Your Light Shining?

Recently, my friend Deann did a children’s sermon about the moon and how bright and beautiful it is when it’s full. She pointed out to the kids that the moon has no light of its own. Because of the location and the makeup of the surface, the moon reflects only the light of the sun. I immediately thought of the song “This Little Light of Mine”. We have no real light to shine either. Just like the moon, when “The Son” shines on our heart, after repentance and forgiveness, then we too can shine through our personality, acts of kindness, and out pouring of joy and love for others by reflecting “His” light back on to those around us. So today, ask ourselve, can others see The Son Jesus in me?

I asked my friend Kathy Crouch if she had a poem I could use and the following is what she wrote. Only God can coordinate all of this. Thank you Deann for the inspiration and Kathy Crouch for your gift of words.

Ephesians 5:8 “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Is Your Light Shining?

Kathy M. Crouch

Consider the moon and all of its glory,

Yet has no light of its own.

Were it not for the sun created by God,

The moon may have been unknown.

Consider mankind, God’s greatest creation,

Yet has no light of his own.

Were it not for the Son begotten by God,

Through man, no light could be shown.

When God separated light from darkness,

He saw that it was good.

The sun became His brightest star,

For our creator, He understood.

The moon would forever live in darkness,

And would never adorn the sky.

So, the rays from that distant star,

Shines its light as it passes by.

And our Creator also understood,

How very dark this world would be;

Lest the light of His Son shone brightly,

Through His children for all to see.

Is your light shining?
