In the Garden

As many of you already know, I love a garden; flower garden, water garden, vegetable garden, any garden. I simply love a nice garden. I find it so ironic that life began in a garden. God created a perfect landscape and he created man to tend it.

I’ll admit as a farmer’s daughter and living in the country, I love trying my hand at gardening. But, as much as I know and love about it, I know that I cannot make a single seed sprout outside of God’s will. He provides the sun, the rain, and the soil. Some places have great conditions for growing and some not so much. He guides us in learning the ways of the land. Genesis 2:8-10 tells us about God creating a garden called Eden. Genesis 2:15 tells us that God put man in the garden to tend and keep it, to eat from it, to use it for their good. Now, we all know how this story turns out. Keep reading chapter 2 and 3 if you don't know the rest of the story. My point is that farming/gardening was embedded in the creation of man from the beginning. Eden was the original garden/farm. Many people think you have to have a “green thumb” to garden. You really don’t. You just need a little knowledge, a little patience, and a little dirt. God takes care of most of it.

We take where our food comes from for granted. A farmer somewhere grew your fruits and vegetables and a farmer raised the livestock for your meat, butter, and eggs. If you ate today, thank God for the farmer and those who help them. Thank the trucker who got it to the store. And if you enjoyed your meal in peace, thank a soldier.

How wonderful to think that one day, if God wills it, I can help tend His garden. I don't know about you, but seeing Eden is at the top of my bucket list when the time comes.
