In the Blink of an Eye

Recently, I witnessed a one-vehicle accident on a four-lane highway. A red truck was flying up behind me and proceeded to whip in and around several other vehicles. In a matter of seconds, he had run off of the right-hand side of the road, hit the ditch, took out a phone junction box, a fire hydrant and then emptied the contents of the bed of his truck while he flipped back across all four lanes and the median. Not another vehicle was touched. Several of us stopped in the median and called 911. My husband was napping in the passenger seat until I let out some sort of distress noise at what was happening and hit the brakes. He and several other men jumped out to go see if they could help. I thought two people were in the truck because one man’s head was against the passenger window. All the air bags had deployed. The head in the passenger window ended up being the driver. All he could say was "someone run me off the road". Word spread quickly. I was so mad. There were two guys on the phone with the 911 dispatcher that kept saying, they need to catch that guy that ran him off the road. I finally motioned for the two guys who were talking with 911 and showed them the start of the catastrophe. It was clearly evident that no other vehicle was involved. Those two guys were so mad that they had quickly believed the words of a reckless and intoxicated man.

The driver walked away covered in blood with what appeared to be a serious eye Injury but, he walked away. He totaled a fairly new model truck. I thank God no one else was killed because traffic was heavy. But, all I could think about was how quickly everyone believed what the driver said. The driver behind me confirmed what I had told the two men who were on the phone with 911. All they had to do was look. It all happened in what seemed like the blink of an eye. I thanked God profusely for not letting us or anyone else get hurt by this man’s recklessness. I also prayed that this would be a wake-up call for this man. I prayed that he would realize his carelessness and would be convicted of his actions to the point he would seek God’s mercy and forgiveness. It could have all ended for the driver in the blink of an eye. He still has time to get ready for heaven but oh how quickly time could have run out.

Don’t wait! Don’t hesitate! Don’t let something really catastrophic be the driving force to bring you to Jesus. Don’t think you have plenty of time later. It can all end in the blink of an eye. Are you ready to meet Jesus? Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
