How to Know if God is Speaking to Us

Credit to Robby Stewart for the Sermon that prompted this writing.

Has anyone ever said to you, “You better listen!”? Teachers and parents say this a lot especially to young children. And, we say it a lot when we have a strong point we are trying to make. The next time you are in a large group of familiar people, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, close your eyes and see whose voices you recognize.

You can even have children close their eyes and listen as random people speak. Can they identify the voices? We know them without seeing them because we recognized their voice.

How do we hear God? We hear God with our heart! By reading His word, meditating on it, and spending time in prayer, then we learn to recognize God’s voice.

John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

First – You MUST know God! How do you know God? By coming to church and worshipping Him and by reading, studying, and meditating on his word.

Second – We (you and me) MUST know His WORD. Learn and memorize scripture. Boy do I struggle with this one.

Third - You must be attentive to his “nudges”. His Spirit will lead you and guide you in all TRUTH. He may “tell” you to speak nicely to someone. You may simply need you to smile, offer an encouraging word, or lend a helping hand. When you know God, you will know his voice. You just have to learn His voice and listen.

Great devotion, thank you for sharing. Some people require being fed as children to get through to them. Listen for that small voice as it comes to you, then go into action. Amen
