He is Knocking

As I was leaving for work one morning I stopped before getting into my car and took a look around the pond checking for any wildlife that might have been out and about. Although I saw nothing, I did hear the rata-tat-tat of a woodpecker. I directed my gaze to the tallest trees and sure enough, I spied him sitting on a limb high up in a pine tree. I wondered how long he had been tapping and also how much longer would he continue knocking on that tree. I would guess the answer depended on whether the wood was a bit soft or really hard as to how soon he reached the innermost and desired area of the tree.
The scripture from Revelation 3:20 came to my mind. It says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Have you ever read this verse and wondered, like I did about the woodpecker’s patience in knocking? We find the answer in II Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” Did you get that? He is longsuffering toward us and does not want anyone to go into eternity without knowing the Saviour! From the Believer’s Bible Commentary I include this statement, He (God) purposely extends the time of grace so that men might have every opportunity to be saved.
That is love and patience beyond my comprehension. The fact that we are still living in the time of grace is not happenstance, God purposed it! However, He has a plan and that plan involves the end of the age of grace, do not be caught unaware. We are warned in II Peter 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
Oh, friend, do not stand un-answering as Christ is knocking upon the door of your heart. Open up to His saving grace and experience this love and patience firsthand.
Today is the day of salvation!
