He Changes Not

This morning there was a pair of wood ducks on the pond, working the edge nearest my bay window. The male was a little further from the bank, but the female was about as shallow as she could be without beaching herself. Her mate, was following a bit behind as if acting as her guardian while she searched for food. He appeared to be focused on her and waiting patiently as she was foraging. Something seemed to distract her and I watched as she came right up into the back yard a few feet before turning back to the pond. The male duck didn’t change his position or attention.
This picture brought to mind the way we as Christians sometimes move along in our own thoughts and actions, even getting distracted and wandering around aimlessly while just like the male duck in our devotion today stayed the course. His attention to his mate didn’t waiver, his position didn’t change.
Our relationship with Jesus is very much the same. When the things of this world pull at us and at least for me, manage to get our attention away from the things of God and we are cruising with our head in the water so to speak, leaving the straight path for the one that puts distance between us and the Lord, He never alters His watch care and attentiveness toward us. When there is a change in our relationship, it is we who have changed.
This truth is found in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
If you find yourself drifting away from God, remember it is not Him that has moved and get back into His Word, recommit your life to Him and step back towards Him and you will find that He is waiting for you in the very place you left Him.
The final verse of the poem “Our God Changes Not” by M.S. Lowndes sums it all up for us:
So, even though this world’s unstable,
He’s still our solid rock,
And the only certainty in life,
For our God changes not.

Excellent reminder. March has been a struggle for me so this is just what I needed today.
Very good Lucy!
Thanks for that reminder. Well said!
