He Breathed Out the Stars!

Recently, as we were driving home from our prayer service, my husband and I were in awe of the moonscape as we rounded a curve and looked up. You could see the outline of the moon, but only a sliver of it was lit from the bottom. It was a perfect rocking crescent. My grandma would say it was holding water. The sky was an inky black but at the same time it was lit with a million twinkling lights. The outlines of some of the most common constellations stood out in perfect contrast to dark background. I could easily pick out Orion, Cassiopeia, the Big Dipper, and others that I don’t remember the names of. As we pulled up in our drive, we both just had to stand and stare up at the Glory and Majesty of God’s creation.

Genesis 1:14-18 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons,[a] and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.

Psalm 147:4 He determines the number of stars; he gives to all of them their names.

Just think, God breathed out the stars and the moon and the sun! He simply spoke it all into being. I have no idea how anyone can see all of this and think, it just happened by chance. There is not a single living or deceased person who could accomplish any portion of creation with a word or a breath. I am so in awe of what we have to see and hear right in our own backyard that sometimes standing and gazing into the night is all you can do. Can you even imagine the glory and beauty that we will see when there is a New Heaven and a New Earth? (Rev. 21: 1) How comforting it is to know that God is ruling over the day and the night, and his word tells us that “it was good”. Can you imagine, The New Heaven and The New Earth will be even better than good.

Take time to enjoy God’s creation both day and night, and glory in the magnificence of it all.

When you have time to watch a really interesting video, check out this one by Loui Giglio, called

How Great Is Our God? Click the link or copy and paste into your browser to watch. It’s about 40 min. It really puts things in perspective.

This song also came to mind as I was writing. It’s only the first verse. Written by Stuart K Hine, a Methodist Missionary, in 1931.

How Great Thou Art

Oh Lord, my God When I, in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

As l get older l realize every day and night is beautiful. It gives me a relaxing feeling knowing that God created such beauty, and is in control of everything. I started living when l came to realize that he is in control not me.

I had a man tell recently that there was no GOD. I asked him if he could take one of his thoughts and make it physically appear, just as our GOD did. He would not answer me the question. Thank you Lord for great Creation, Amen

Love this devotion. The first thing I saw this morning looking out the kitchen window was a beautiful setting full moon. Thank you Lord.
