Having Faith

Daughter, your faith has healed you, Jesus said.  Go in peace.”  Luke 8:48 (CEB)

This is the last remark that Luke records in his gospel concerning the act of the woman with the issue of blood touching the hem of Jesus’ garment.  What faith she had!  To think….no, to know that just by touching the hem of His robe would bring the healing that she had searched for so desperately for the past twelve years.  This woman had heard of Jesus and His miracles of healing, and she had faith.

Imagine the day if you will – there was a crowd around Jesus, everyone pushing and jostling for position to be near Him, to be able to see Him as He worked His way through the thick throng of people.  I imagine it was hot and sticky as well.  Amongst the crowd was this woman who had a bleeding issue that had been going on for twelve years, she was desperate to reach Jesus.  I can see her working her way closer and closer to Him, determined to get close enough.

Finally, seeing a break in the crowd, she lunges forward and just grasps the hem of His robe as it swept the ground in front of her.  Immediately, with one touch she has been healed!  The bleeding ceased after many long years.

I believe she had faith in that her action would bring about her healing.  In this case, the healing was of a physical nature.  There are many other things that people deal with that can be “healed” by a simple touch, by reaching out for Jesus.

What is there in your life that needs a touch from Jesus?  Do you have the faith this woman in the scriptures had?  Do you think or do you know?

Know that you are beloved and known by God. Healing does not always look like what we expect, but sometimes healing looks like acceptance, belonging, and connection. Sometimes, healing looks like not letting fear have a hold in your life.

Reach out and touch the robe of Jesus today and ask for the reminder, the grace, and the knowing that comes from him. Let Christ find you wherever you are and meet you there—at your lowest lows and your highest heights.
