Have Faith In God

Mark 11:22-24

What kind of mountains are in your way right now? What type of obstacles are you facing? Have faith in God!

Many Christians today are suffering from a hangover of about 30 to 40 years of a health/wealth Gospel that has been proclaimed. The Evangelical movement of the late 80’s throughout the 90’s promised Christians of an utopia that Christ himself never promised on earth. They proclaimed that if you pay your tithes, increase your free will offerings, buy their books, and attend their churches, then you will be as Poor Richard said in his almanac “Healthy, wealthy, and wise.” This teaching has left many in our day discouraged, in despair, or skeptical. This was not the teachings of Christ and definitely not the teachings of the apostles in the New Testament.

Being faithful to God in seeking, stewardship, and service does have its reward. But many times the rewards are not material but spiritual. Jesus never promised that we would never be sick or suffer. He never promised to supply our greed. But he did promise to supply our need and give us grace to deal with our afflictions, infirmities, and weaknesses. He did say that if we would be faithful that we would receive a crown of life. Our reward and our treasures are in heaven reserved for us (1Peter 1:3-5) and if we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, then all these things will be added to us. Matthew 6:33

The true test of faith is not when things are going good or if we have been good. The true test of faith is when we still believe God when things aren’t good and we haven’t been good. Faith is not based on feeling but in believing what God has said and taking his word for it.

I don’t know what mountains you're facing today. For some it could be sickness, a bad doctors report, financial challenges, or marital problems. For others it could be addiction, spiritual weaknesses, fear, despair, or discouragement. What ever mountain or obstacle you face, there are many in the Bible who overcame these same challenges you and I face and they did it simply because they Had faith in God!

For future encouragement read Hebrews 11
