*I wrote this devotion when my dad was sick in the hospital.
Lamentations 3:25
Sometimes it’s very hard to be patient and wait. Especially in a fast food line, receiving a bonus check, waiting to hear about a job or promotion, or as in my case this week trying to get my daddy well. We found out that he has had multiple complications and trying to treat the whole while dealing with the parts has been a somewhat tedious struggle. All of the physicians have been extremely compassionate, caring, and careful in their treatment of daddy and I cannot ask for any better. I have come to learn by experience what Jeremiah said in our scripture text “The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, unto the soul that seeks Him.”
I have found that in my waiting that God is good! A lack of waiting and patience can cause us to focus on all of the bad things and miss out on the blessing of seeing God in His goodness doing good things. They are there! We just have to look for Him and them!
I have seen the hand of God in the extended hands of EMS workers over the last few weeks who although are tired, they tirelessly do their job with courtesy and compassion, being a present help in times of need. I have seen the gift of nursing at its best working in an intense environment trying to bring vitals that are out of line back into line with calmness and focus. I have seen the wisdom of God pour forth from physicians that have been gifted with good minds to work through a delicate situation with daddy’s health history and the multiples sicknesses that he has right now. All I can say is that through it all God has been present, God had been working, and God has been good to my and my family over these past few weeks.
The fruit of Gods goodness stems from the root of our waiting and seeking. Waiting makes us stop, seeking makes us look, and God’s goodness give us peace, joy, and gladness in difficult times.
No wonder David could say after walking through the valley of the shadow of death, and sitting at a table in the midst of his enemies, that “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Goodness and mercy are behind me because I have the Good Shepherd in front of me!
