From Bitter Days to Better Days

Isaiah 40:31; Galatians 6:9

My cross is so heavy!

I’m tired!

I’m weary!

I am ready for it to come to an end.

I am tired of fighting, though I have fought a good fight.

I have finished my course, though a rugged one it has been.

I have kept the faith, a faith worth keeping.

I am tired!

I am weary!

I am like Christ in the garden, wanting this cup to pass from me.

I am praying for another way, a better way, an easier way.

But nevertheless, I know there is no other cup, no better cup, no easier way.

So I pray not my will then, but thy will be done!

In accepting this cup I am still tired, but refreshed.

I am still weary, but renewed.

I know that darker times are to come.

But yet there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I am spent!

I am discouraged!

I feel like the Psalmist when he said “No one cares for my soul.”

But then, in a moment, in the depth of my despair, I am reminded of a sermon from a man of God.

“Life is hard, but God is good!

Yes! God is good! He is great! And great is His goodness and mercy towards us all!

I am strengthened in knowing that He is for us! And if He is for us who can be against us!

What is this? I feel as though I have gotten a second wind.

I am not tired!

I am not weary!

I am not weak!

I am not discouraged!

I feel strong!

I am strong! Not in my own strength, but in the strength of the Lord!

I take up my cross. Though rugged, it doesn’t feel as heavy!

I have learned that “They who trust in the Lord that He will renew their strength. He shall mount them up on eagles wings. They shall run, but not be weary, they shall walk and not grow faint.”

I know that we live in bitter days. But better days are coming. We live in dark times, but a brighter time is on the horizon.

There is coming a new day, with a new sun.

A day when the Sun of righteousness will arise with healing in His wings.

A day when there will be no more need of the sun, for Jesus will be the light.

So let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we will reap if we faint not!
