For Such a Time as This

In yesterday’s post, Where Are We, I stated that I feel as though I am living in the “Twilight Zone”. Through much reading and reflecting, I concluded that we are exactly where God wants us to be at this very moment in time. As I was sitting in front of my computer thinking about what I would write for Friday, my phone rang, and it was my daughter, Lauren. I asked her if she had a minute to listen to what I had written for Thursday, and of course, she said “sure”! When I finished reading, she said, “Oh mama! It is not a coincidence that I called you at this very moment. I have something to read to you that a friend sent to me yesterday”.

This is the article she read to me that was posted by Jordan Dooly. Lauren could hardly fight back the tears as she read it.

Sometimes I worry about my kids growing up in this crazy world. You look around at all the division, strife, brokenness, and corruption…and as a parent, it’s hard not to worry.

Just the other day I came across a headline that made me worry again…and God reminded me of what I learned on my journey to motherhood, when I was wondering and worrying about whether I’d ever have kids to raise (and worry about) on this side of heaven. And it’s this…

God has had my children’s birthdates written in the book of life from the very beginning of time. I could not do anything to make it happen any faster, and to or delay the timing that He had for the moment they’d join our family. (And the same is true for you.)

Because nothing—not me, not the world around me, not anything---is powerful enough to mess up the plans God has for their lives…from the timing of their conception to their testimony and every detail of their callings.

Mamas: the Maker of all things created our children for this exact generation. And He chose them to be born for such a time as this.

God is not surprised by the state of the world. He is not trembling on His throne. He is not threatened by culture or elections or economics or corruption. He knew exactly what the world would be like and decided that OUR babies were destined to be born at this exact time in history. Not accidently, on purpose, for a purpose. And He chose us to raise them. He hand-selected us for the task of preparing them to be the next generation of leaders…for good and for His glory.

So, if you’re a Christian mama worried about the world you’re raising your babies in, remember that The Maker of all things believed it best that they be born in this exact generation. And He chose you to equip them for such a time as this.

Crestview family, we have a lot of young mamas and babies in our church. But this is talking to all of us who are mothers, from the youngest to the oldest. I am still a mama. Lauren and Marley are mamas. Someone reading this may be a mama. Just because my children are catching up to me in age, I am still their mama. Did I equip them for such a time as this? Did I prepare them to be the next generation of leaders? I can only hope and pray that I did.

Let us all take comfort and always remember that our children are in this world, as crazy as it may seem, for such a time as this. They are indeed a gift from God. We are reminded in Psalm 127:3 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward”. Let’s not get discouraged as we try to raise our children in this upside-down world. Look to

God for strength as we prepare them for the next generation.
