Fall Colors

This evening as I sit looking out over the pond, I feel the coming of fall even though it’s only late August. There is a particular way the sun looks during fall afternoons and I see that today. The sun of fall is a softer, more golden color, and as it shines through the leaves of the trees I notice there is already a bit of color change occurring. It’s very subtle, but it is there nevertheless. There is something about every season that I love, but I do believe fall is my favorite.

These signs I’m seeing, feeling, and sometimes smelling, tell me that God is in control. Each season arrives in its designated time. Oh, we may have a few unseasonal days during each season, but in reality, God is controlling the days.

There is a lot of talk about unusual weather patterns, global warming, and the sort, but I fall back to God’s Word and in it I find assurance that He who created the earth, the universe, and all components of each, holds time in His hands. Just look at Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” What glorious assurance!

Psalm 104:19 says, “He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.” The sun, moon, stars, and yes even the seasons, know their appointed times. These things we should not worry about. In fact, we read in Acts 1:7, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.’ We need not be concerned, for He arranged it all and controls it all! What an awesome God I serve!

The God that has set all this into place and controls and directs it all, also wants us not to worry for ourselves. As the Psalmist wrote, “what is man that thou art mindful of him?” This great God loves me, He loves each of us and desires that we love Him and wants a relationship with us. Only through salvation in Jesus can this accomplished, but if you will ask Jesus into your heart, then you have full access to this same God!

I think that a fitting last statement for this devotion is from Psalm 8:9, “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! ”

Whisper this as a simple prayer of praise today.

Yes, Yes, Yes! I am so very tired of the global warming, climate change, blah, blah, blah. Ask any farmer and they will tell you that our weather comes in cycles just as God directed. All we are asked to do is be good stewards.
