Faith....In the Basement

The house my children grew up in had a full, finished basement and that was where my husband’s workshop was housed. Over the years this became the place where anything that was in need of repair went…down to the basement. Whether it was a broken lamp, bookcase or toy, my husband took it downstairs and when it came back upstairs it was fixed! I must add here that my husband is an engineer and seems to be able to figure out how to repair most anything.
One day, having a conversation with my son, who was probably 6 or 7 years old at the time, about the things Daddy took into the basement and came back to him fixed, he made the statement, “if I broke my arm Daddy could take me to the basement and fix it.” Oh, the innocence of children! They are so trusting, and what faith they have in us as parents.
This is the kind of faith we as Christians need…the faith of a child. In Luke 18 we read of Jesus blessing the children and in verse 17 He tell us, “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as little child shall in no wise enter therein.” Just as my son trusted his earthly father, we must learn to trust our Heavenly Father. It is by faith that we place our trust in Him.
The Believer’s Bible Commentary puts it this way: Little children do not need to become adults in order to be saved, but adults do need the simple faith and humility of a little child in order to enter God’s kingdom.
Father God,
Grow my faith daily into that of a child’s
That I may enter Your kingdom.
Help me to run to you as a child runs
To his parents for assurance.
Remind me that Your arms are open wide enough to
Cover me under your wings and be my shield
And buckler.
Amen
