Psalms 27:1; John 8:12
All of us at one time or another have taken a wrong turn and went down a road that was unfamiliar and uninhabited. There is an anxious and eerie feeling that sweeps over us and we are looking for somewhere to turn around and go back. Imagine this feeling when there was no GPS systems or I-Phones to help find your way back. As you are going down this deserted road your mind begins to wander off to that horror movie you had previously watched and you’re waiting for a Jason, Freddy, or Micheal to jump out at you.The sense of fear is overwhelming when traveling on dark unfamiliar roads.
At this time in history we are traveling on one of those roads. We have made a wrong turn and are heading in unfamiliar and uncertain territory and for many people it has created a spirit of fear and weakness. What has gotten us to this point is not that we haven’t had a GPS to guide us, we have turned it off! For some reason we in our country today have gotten to the point to where we think we can move forward without God. Many of our leaders in Churches and Government feel that our roadmap, the Bible, is no longer relevant, or even worse, it has been so relevant that now it has become a form of hate speech to those who oppose its truths. Just because it tells us that we are sinners in need of a savior and that the lifestyles that are being chosen today that is contrary to God’s will and purpose for life, are unfulfilling and lead to more pain and suffering, has become of form of hate instead of help.
Jesus, who is our GPS, said that he is the way, the truth, and the life. And when you look at his life it was one that was full of love, and not hate. It was one that wasn’t selfish, but selfless, giving himself for us! Jesus said also that he is the light of the world and that those who do not follow him walk in darkness. At one time we as a nation walked in the light of Christ and the Gospel, but now we have made that wrong turn and in turning we have not turned away from a path, but a person; the person of Jesus Christ.
So what does this mean for God’s people. Are we to grope in the darkness of fear and despair. No! We walk in the light! We keep looking into the face of Jesus and onto the pages of his word, for his word is “A lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” (Psalms 119:105) David said in our Psalm that because God is our light and our strength, we have no reason to be fearful and discouraged. The godless and secular supermen and woman today may try create fear and anxiety among the faithful in the Lord, but just like those horror characters of old, they too will come and go.
There have been many in the last two thousand years that were God’s paw bearers. They made statements like “God is dead” or “The Bible will be a dead book” but those men have come and gone and Christ and his word still rule and abide with us today. Jesus said that because he is the light of the world that they who follow him will walk in the light of life. So what do we have to fear? Of whom do we need to be afraid? I am reminded of the words of Jesus when he said “Fear not them who are able to destroy the body, but fear him who is able to destroy both the body and soul in hell.” (Luke 12:4,5) It sounds to me like the modern atheist and secularist are the ones who should be afraid!
God bless and I love you all!
