Different Plans

“Many plans are in a person’s mind, but the LORD’s purpose will succeed.” Proverbs 19:21 (CEB)
Brooks and I both expected to have a lot of time on our hands once we retired. Going to the lake during the week rather than the weekend was an exciting prospect. It stands to reason that weekdays bring smaller crowds, smaller crowds on watercrafts means calmer water and calmer water makes it easier to fish. We have had a boat for many years now and these last couple of summers have proven to be busy enough we have not been able to get on the lake as much as we’d hoped. Recently, we planned a Friday morning trip to the lake. I wasn’t going to fish; my plan was to enjoy the ride, wind in my hair and the sun on my face. Brooks would be doing all the fishing this time. Needless to say, we were really looking forward to this time on the water.
That week Brooks washed the boat, got all his fishing rods re-loaded with new line and tidied up his tackle boxes. He loaded the boat and hooked up to the truck. We were ready to roll! On Friday morning we were up and away around 7:00am, stopping on the way to grab a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee.
As we pulled in at the boat landing, I realized the sky had clouded up. Brooks had checked the weather the day before, but not that very morning. Raindrops began to fall as he pulled out his phone to check the forecast. Uh oh! The weather indicated rain off and on most of the morning with the possibility of storms. Having been caught in a bad storm once before, I dug in and announced I wasn’t going out. There was some hemming and hawing but we decided it best to not take a risk with the weather. Instead, we parked, ate our breakfast and drank our coffee and then headed for home.
God’s plan was not our plan, why? His thoughts are higher than my thoughts and His plans and ways are not as mine. (Isaiah 55:9) All I know is that we were not meant to be out on the lake that day.
Trust God, He cares for us and protects us when we don’t even realize it.
