Deeply Rooted

Recently I was weeding the flower beds and the Lord used the pulling of weeds to speak to me. He never ceases to amaze me in the different manners He uses to grab my attention. As I was working my way around the house, I realized that a lot of the weeds came right up with a gentle pull; others required a little more effort, while some had me pushing rocks out of the way so that I could dig my fingers into the dirt to get those stubborn ones up!

God brought the parable of the sower into my mind; you know…the seeds that fell into four different types of soil. This parable comes out of Matthew 13:3-8. Christ tells the multitude of a sower who sowed seeds on hard packed soil that were eaten by birds, and then on a thin layer of soil over rock and the seeds sprouted quickly but having no root were soon scorched by the sun, next the seeds landed on ground infested with thorns and growth there was impossible. Finally, the seeds found good ground; they sprouted, grew and yielded a crop. The Lord was telling me by reminding me of this scripture and giving me a tangible lesson that we, as His church are to be like the seeds in the good ground. As I found in pulling the pesky weeds, some had taken root in good soil and I had to really work to pull them out. We should be so rooted!

As Christians with deep roots, we hear the Word and receive it, obey and understand. Thereby manifesting Christian character and producing fruit. You may wonder about those “deeply rooted” weeds that did give way and come up out of the ground by my hand in comparison to being a deeply rooted true believer in Jesus Christ and possibly being plucked. Let me leave you with this thought from Romans 8:38-39, “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

If we are truly in good ground (the Word) deeply rooted by watering (Christ, the Living Water), and being weeded (confession and repentance), there is NOTHING that can pluck us out of His hand!

Lord, whoever is reading this today; I pray that you help erase all doubts as it concerns this reader’s faith. I believe this reader wants to draw closer to you, just like I do. As we get ready to plant our heels into the good ground, we want your love to take root. Equip us to do the work that you called us to do and the ability to be fruit-producers. Remind us daily that as true believers we can never be separated from Your love.

In Jesus Name,

Amen

Thank you Lucy. I’m working on a children’s sermon for a few weeks down the road and this gave me good food for thought. I may use a bit of this with your permission.
