Cry Out in Faith

Recently a high school friend asked if I would read and study Psalm 61:1 which is, “Hear my cry O God; attend unto my prayer”, in hopes that the Lord might give me a devotion relative to this verse. This is her go to verse, so I got my Bible and went out onto the back porch. It was already dark, and from the porch with the light on I couldn’t even see the pond. Let me tell you, that out here in the country, away from street lights and the light from nearby homes, it is very dark!

I sat down and began to read the whole Psalm to myself, but in a moment I had an urge to re-read it aloud. I was alone except for my son and daughter-in-law’s dog, Ellie. Ellie accompanied me on the porch and paced back and forth a few minutes, but when I began reading aloud, she stopped and laid down quietly. As I read the words of the psalmist David, I thought how praying is much like this night looking on the pond and not being able to see it.

As I was contemplating the scripture, I thought that when I pray, even though I can’t physically see God the Father, He is there. Tonight I can’t see the pond, but it is there. I have enough evidence of its existence in the sounds around me. I hear the water running into the spill pipe, I hear the noises of the night everywhere. In the same manner, I have evidence God has provided of Himself, so that when I am in prayer I know He is there with me.

From Romans 1:20 we are told, “Ever since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—God’s eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, because they are understood through the things God has made. So humans are without excuse.” I chose this verse from the Common English Bible for its clarity. As we look at the world, there is no excuse to not believe in the God of Creation.

What is so amazing and humbling to me is that this God, the One who made it all, attends unto my prayers. Again, turning to the Psalms, David really hits the nail on the head in Psalm 8:3-4, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained: what is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man that thou visitest him?”

It is by faith that we know and believe that God is there beyond where eye can see. When our voice penetrates the throne room of Heaven, God is delighted, and our faith assures us of an audience with Jehovah God.

In closing, be assured that if you are calling on Him in faith, He will surely hear your cry and attend unto your prayer.

Faith is the most powerful thing man can ever do. To trust in God, believe in God and have faith in God is true love. This way God knows our love is true. Many people pray to see if it works.
