Created for Good Works

After I was asked to write for our devotional page, I panicked. And then I prayed. And then I started contemplating what could I write that would be beneficial. And then I thought about what I always told my students. Write about what you know and what you are passionate about. I still wasn’t sure until the next day when my son sent a text which included Ephesians 2:10. It was actually a meme with a woman mowing grass and a tornado in the background. Caption read, “Me carrying on with the good works God has for me in spite of current events.” Boom! Inspiration…the Bible says it right there in black and white.

Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved, through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Every morning I fix my cup of coffee then I open my French doors to the back porch, weather permitting, and breathe in the morning. It is my most favorite time of the day. I either write out my prayers and thoughts or read from scripture and or my devotionals. Now don’t get me wrong, I must confess, I am not 100% faithful in this routine. Some days I just manage to roll out of bed and say, “Thank you Lord for this day and getting me up.”

With all that is going on in our country, it is difficult to not become depressed and overwhelmed. Hunker down in our hidey holes and wait out the storm. That’s not what God wants us to do. I have been so perplexed by our current state of events. Do we or don’t we? Should I or not? “He has created us for good works, which he prepared beforehand.” We, as Christians, must set the example. We must stay the course and follow God’s example set before us. Read the scripture above again. Pray for wisdom and perseverance, thanking God every step of the way. It is my prayer that we should all stand firm in our Faith and not allow the outside world to influence us to stop doing the good works we were created for. So do what you were created for: be an artist, a writer, a farmer, a cook, a housewife , a teacher, a flower designer, a nurse, a banker, an entrepanuer, caregiver, machanic, a musician. Do what you were called or created to do.

I like that picture and caption that your son sent you. Paul said, “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.” May this be accomplished in us. Your last paragraph says it perfectly.

I have done a lot of things in my life and l thank God for that talent, but what l like best is where l am now. Being retired enjoying what he has given me and testifying to what God has done for me. Turning my life over to him is the best thing l have ever done. He has given me more than l deserve. If you are lost call on him and he will take over AMEN!
