Leviticus 1:3,4
I have been reading the book of Leviticus recently and I have to admit that it can be somewhat challenging. One reason is that is can be so repetitive concerning the offerings, washings, and other ordinances that must be kept in the Tabernacle worship. Another reason is that it talks about sin a lot, which to be honest, make make us all feel a little uncomfortable from time to time. We still have a problem with it, and some have a bigger problem than others.
I would encourage you to read the book of Leviticus because it is really one of the most important Old Testament books we can read. It taught Gods people that not only were they sinners in need of a sacrifice for sin, but it also taught them what true worship was all about. There were strict laws for Israel's worship and they had to be strictly kept in order for the people to be in an harmonious relationship with God, and most importantly be the people that He desires them to be which was a forgiven people.
Our text tells us the the when the offerer brought his sacrifice that he would lay his hands on the head of that sacrifice. This signifies two things. First, it symbolized confession of sin. The offerer, in laying his hands on the sacrifice in essence was acknowledging, confessing, and willing to turn away from that sin. Secondly, it symbolized a transfer of that sin into the spotless, blameless, innocent animal that was to represent the sinner. Once this was done, the offers/sinner could leave in good conscience knowing that he was forgiven. The rest of the work was up to the priest. And it had to be done right!
When I get done reading Leviticus, the first thing I think of is "Thank God for Jesus Christ!" Everyone one of the offerings and sacrifices pointed to "The Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world." Jesus was the fulfillment of all of the offerings and the reason why is there is so many is that there is so much that comes with the work of the cross. There is the
Taking away of sin
A Restored peace with God
The removal of guilt
The promise of the Holy Spirit
The completeness of the sacrificial work that there need not be any other sacrifice for sin
All of this was made complete in Jesus Christ!
The Bible teaches us that "If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us of all of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." So this poses a question. What offering do we bring to God for our sin? We bring Jesus Christ! He is our offering for sin. We cast all of all sins and care upon Him because He cares for us! When we do so we can rise up in confidence knowing that we are forgiven. Not only is Jesus the perfect sacrifice, He is also the perfect Priest. What assurance we have in Jesus. He is truly the lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world!!!

I read Lev. Ch. 1-3 was my daily reading for today. Besides laying their hands on the animal they had to kill it before the priest. My thinking is like yours, thank you JESUS CHRIST for your Love and forgiveness, and shedding your Blood for us (me) AMEN.
