Can You Hear God Speaking?

I have a confession to make. A good while back, I was asked to do several things at church. I got a little perturbed and rebelled a bit. But, God got a hold of me and like a lightening bolt, it hit me. I was offered an opportunity to serve Him. Needless to say, that's not a lesson I want to learn twice. With that being said, Some of you may hear a version of this for Children's Church on Sunday. Two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Now close your eyes and listen. Can you identify the voices? Do you recognize any odd sounds? What about the noises outside? Are they familiar? I bet most of you can name all the sounds and voices you hear because you knew and recognized them.

How do we hear God? We hear Him with our heart, and by reading his word. This too was a lesson I learned straight from God and His word.

Many years ago, I was driving down the road in the rain. A man I recognized as an employee of our local grocery store, was walking home in the pouring rain with no umbrella or rain jacket. I had 3 umbrellas in my truck and as clear as day, the thought popped into my head that I needed to give this man an umbrella. I turned around, pulled up beside him and stuck the umbrella out the window. He didn't say much but took the umbrella. I told him that I had too many and he needed to stay dry walking home. I saw him many times afterwards carrying that umbrella.

How do we know and hear God?

First – You MUST know God! How do you know God? By going to church and worshipping with like-minded believers you will learn who He is. Second – You MUST know His WORD. Learn and memorize scripture. Meditate on His word. Third - You must be attentive to his “nudges”. His Spirit will lead you and guide you in all TRUTH.

John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

God may “tell” you to speak nicely to someone. You may simply need to smile, offer an encouraging word, or lend a helping hand. When you know God, you will know his voice. You just have to learn to listen. In a crazy, chaotic world filled with noise, we sometimes have a hard time listening and discerning.

Lord, please speak loudly to us when we have a hard time listening and hearing. Forgive us as we often fail you as well. Amen.

In years past, I often felt that God should have left me on my own. BUT, He did not! I have heard His voice always since I made Him mine. I chose to either pay attention or ignore the words I was hearing. I hear Him each time He tells me to relax from worries, from fear, from doubt......to trust Him. I also hear and feel His words of encouragement. Sometimes when I'm outside doing yard work and the traffic noise stops for a nanosecond, it is so peaceful. I hear Him and feel at peace. My job, as His child, is to pay attention!

Thanks for this message. We need to know when God speaks. We need to listen more and speak less. Actions speak more than words. Our actions can show others that we are listening to God. Thank you again and God bless!

Great lesson in this devotion. You must shut up to be able to hear the message. Satan love’s to keep you talking. The Lord gave us 2 ears to hear. Listen for that still small voice, you will know God speaking, sometimes I look around and ask myself who is talking. Thank you Lord for your Words, in Jesus name, Amen.
