Broken Things

“God loves to take the broken and weak things of the world and make them beautiful for His glory.” Angie Smith

The events that happened in the Bible surrounding Esau, Rebecca, and Jacob sound like a modern-day soap opera. There is deception, lies, cheating, lusting, etc. And then… amid these things, God steps in and wrestle with Jacob and changes his heart, an encounter that will forever change Jacob. (Genesis 32:22-32.) God changed Jacob’s name to Israel and left him with a permanent limp to remember this night.

Another soldier was added to God’s army ready to fight, ready to lead, ready to change lives all because God changed the life of a soldier. He is now suited completely with the armor of God. Nothing can stop him, not even the Satan’s fiery darts! The broken, weak, wretched soul is now a beautiful masterpiece ready for war, a spiritual war…to win souls for Christ.

God is still in the business of changing lives today. The only way He can bring glory to His name is when we surrender completely to His will. When we do this God smiles. He loves it when this happens. Some of us may feel broken and weak with nothing to offer our Lord, but He often uses these people to do great things so that it will all point directly back to Him.

In closing out this chapter, Angie posed this question. “What is one name you think of when talking about yourself? (Maybe it’s liar, addict, or bitter.) What is a name you pray could replace it? Whatever it is, remember this: your reputation is not the same as your legacy. Spend a few minutes praying about the names you want to change, and the names you would rather claim as your own.”

So complex, yet so simple! Let us be willing to be changed by Him! Let’s join God’s army and “Always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks us about the hope we have.”

“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold. All things are become new.” 2 Cor. 5:17

A Prayer

From the Heart

Hear my urgent cry oh God,

Attend unto my prayer.

I know that You hear me,

I know that You care.

From the ends of the earth,

Will I cry out to Thee,

Giving thankful praise,

For salvation that’s free.

Forever will I thank thee,

The Savior of my soul,

Who took my broken pieces,

And in time made them whole.

When my heart is so heavy,

Lead me on to that place,

Where the Rock is much higher,

Where there’s mercy and grace.

In the name of sweet Jesus,

May I win souls for You,

And may You receive the glory,

For the things that I do.

Amen
