I’m sure you have heard of the phrase I am just dog-dead tired, or I am weary down to my bones. I bet you may have even used the terms yourself in some form. There were days on the farm where you got so tired that even your bones seemed to ached, not just your muscles. Those were the days where you may have just skipped the supper table and went straight to bed. Today was one of those days for me. A quick two-day trip to my mom’s, doctor appointments, cleaning, cooking, errands, yard work and then back home. I was worn out. As I was chillin’ on the couch the thought about being bone weary popped in my head. As we have just ended Holy Week, I immediately thought about Jesus. If you have watched any of The Chosen Series (I highly recommend) then you know that they portray Jesus as a man who never stops. He walked everywhere and was in constant teaching or preaching mode. He allowed the hordes of people to put their burdens upon himself. Then after a long day of listening, tending, and teaching, he then would sit and debrief with the disciples. Can you imagine how bone-tired Jesus was? He had no home to go to of his own. He most likely spent nights sleeping in a tent probably on the ground. No hot shower when he got there. Food preparations and cooking? Oh my... plus, he knew. He knew what God planned to make happen. Can you imagine the stress that he was under? Add to that, being worn out and weary from travels. It’s a wonder he could put one foot in front of the other. But God!
I love those two words, “But God!” When you see those words or hear those words you know something good is going to happen or be said. (“But God” appears at least 605 times in the Bible) God handled it. God provided. God prepared a resting place for Him. God gave Him strength and endurance. God gave Him rest.
Hebrews 12:3 says, “Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” We think we are weary but we truly have very little understanding of what Jesus endured and suffered through. When you reach that point where you feel bone weary, just remember Jesus when he endured and suffered for us all, so that we could have eternal life, free from the weariness of this world.

Thanks for the factoid that “but God” appears 605 times in the Bible. I love those two words also. One time I was watching some news report about some health issue, I think, and they were interviewing some woman in her office. I could see her screen saver on her computer behind her and it was simply those two wonderful words! I happily thought, there was someone who really knows the Lord. Thanks for your post. It goes with my screen saver, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.” And that reminds me that our…
Thank you Sara. This was a good reminder for me .
