Birds of a Feather

“We were all baptized by one Spirit into one body, whether Jew or Greek, or slave or free, and we all were given one Spirit to drink.”  1 Cor 12:13 (CEB)

Most mornings, I look out the bedroom window at the two birdfeeders that I have in the back yard.  I always like to see activity out there.  Watching a few mornings back, there were a variety of feathered friends munching on a breakfast of mixed seeds.  Side by side, on the feeders and on the ground were robins, cardinals and a blue bird or two.  Immediately I knew what had drawn all those different birds to the same place…FOOD!

I was reminded of how we, God’s children, are also very different.  In the chosen scripture we see mentioned there Jews and Greeks, slave or free; however, there are many more things that make us different.  Skin color, size, and we also have different abilities, talents and gifts.  With all these differences, what is the common factor?  Our faith in Jesus!  When we consider this, all those things that make us different fade from view.  We then enjoy the presence of Jesus (our food) side by side.

As diverse as the birds, we too can gather and feast!  Let’s not let our differences keep us from the feeder of Jesus.

This passage is a good reminder that building the Kingdom takes us all!

Our bodies have many parts, but the many parts make up only one body when they are all put together.  So it is with the “body” of Christ.  Each of us is a part of the one body of Christ…the Holy Spirit has fitted us all together into one body…He has made many parts for our bodies and has out each part just where He wants it.  What a strange thing a body would be if it had only one part!  So He has made many parts, but still there is only one body. 1 Cor. 12:12-13 & 18-20 (TLB)
